I joined Nissan in September 1991 and have recently celebrated 25 years at the Sunderland Plant.  During this time I have held a variety of Senior HR positions including; Employee Relations, General Affairs and Contracts, Payroll, Communications, Fleet Management, Company Events and Strategy & Planning.  For the past 4 years I have been responsible for managing all Recruitment at the Plant and have successfully overseen the hiring of over 4,500 new staff at all levels within the Company.  This coincides with a huge period of growth within the business and has provided the ideal opportunity for me to lead an innovative team of recruiters to strive to deliver our vision of ‘first class resourcing for world class people’.

I have over a decade of experience within HR and Recruitment, gained in retail, public sector, and manufacturing.  I joined Nissan in 2012 to specialise in Engineering and Quality Assurance recruitment.  Since then I have recruited world class candidates into most areas of the plant.  During this time, I have found the ‘Can do’ attitude of our employees a common theme in successful candidates.  I certainly have it myself, which has helped me complete a triathlon and the Great North Run twice.

Andrew Hodgson

Maintenance & Engineering Recruitment Partner

I have over 30 years of experience within the manufacturing environment gaining a wide range of experience in Maintenance, Engineering and Production.  I joined Nissan in 2014 to assist in recruiting a high volume of maintenance technicians to support the expansion ahead of the Infiniti launch.  Since then I have also moved on to recruiting world class Engineers to support our ever expanding manufacturing facilities.  The power comes from within here at Nissan and this is certainly true with myself as I regularly complete long distance cycle rides including the Hadrians Cycleway earlier this year.

I have over 25 years’ experience at NMUK within the Training and Recruitment Departments.  I have vast experience of high volume recruitment for production staff and also specialise in Quality Assurance & Logistics resourcing.  In the background I have a major home renovation project happening with which I am very hands on.  I have found my drive and very strong work ethic has helped enormously with this along with my desire to see a project through to the end – all of which are qualities I look out for when recruiting new staff.

I joined Nissan in 2015 on the HR Graduate Scheme after obtaining a Business Management Degree at Coventry University.  Prior to this, I operated in both the pharmaceutical and automotive industry, focusing on Recruitment, Talent Management and Learning & Development.  During my time at Nissan I have rotated from Training to co-ordinating Graduate & Placement Recruitment.  I truly believe the power comes from inside, and with that I am passionate to develop our early talent.  My own power comes from my drive to succeed outside of the office, tackling the Mad March Mare in 2016 is a testament to that!

I have worked at Nissan since 1987, first as an agency temp then in 1992 I became a permanent employee, working as PA to the Training Manager.  Throughout my time at Nissan I have worked in Safety, Training and Personnel in a number of roles including administration support, PA, training support and recruiting for temporary manufacturing staff.  I currently support recruitment for Maintenance, Engineering and the office areas.  Outside of work as well as my family I support my ageing parents, so my ability to juggle workload and demands is carried through from the office.

Arriving in June 2017 I am a new member of the recruitment team. Prior to this, I have completed the first 2 years of my Human Resource Management degree at Northumbria University whilst also working part-time in retail for 4 years. During my short spell at NMUK I have witnessed the importance of our employees, who continuously strive to improve in all they do to drive Nissan into the future, which is something I already feel a strong part of. I am a highly motivated individual with a passion for skiing and I love a long dog walk on the beach.

Daniel Symington

I am a Technical Recruiter with over 20 years’ experience managing recruitment teams and recruitment process with a focus on specialist roles within Global Engineering and Manufacturing companies. I joined the team at Nissan in early 2017 to focus on engineering recruitment in the UK. Prior to this, I have worked with Fortune 500 Companies and recruited across several sectors including Automotive Supply Chain, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Pharma, Energy and Process. Hannah Simpson

I joined Nissan in 2014 when I completed my placement year within HR. I worked part-time whilst completing my studies at Northumbria University, and returned full time after this to work in Recruitment. I was part of the team who successfully completed one of the largest recruitment campaigns at NMUK when we recruited over 300 Manufacturing staff to build the first Infiniti model here at the Sunderland plant. I currently recruit for the Battery Plant, Trim & Chassis Line 2, QA departments, Material Handling and NDS.
