Engineering Graduate Programme

We value our engineers very much; they provide support to our manufacturing team, ensuring the seamless production of 500,000 cars per year through the precise designation of processes and facilities and continual operational improvement. As one of our Engineering Graduates you will learn how to combine technical know-how with hands-on expertise, with a full range of career opportunities such as Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering.

  • Your first few weeks will be spent on the production line to gain a strong understanding of our business.
  • You will then spend a short time in various departments to give you an overview of cross-functional working
  • Finally, you will be assigned to your own team of engineers in order to develop specialist knowledge in a particular area.

Exceptional training and development is provided every step of the way (including support to study for Chartered Engineer status). In return we look for initiative, confidence and a proactive approach.

 

1 Year Engineering Placement

Combining technical know-how with hands-on expertise, our engineers define the processes and facilities needed to achieve the production of some 500,000 cars a year.  As an Engineering Placement Student, you will be involved in a full range of activities, from minor repairs and improvements to major projects and new product launches.

Whichever role you are placed in, you will be combining hands-on engineering with project co-ordination and teamwork, working cross-functionally with a range of departments.

Support is always on hand when you need it.  With the guidance of skilled and experienced engineers, and your own natural ability, you’ll soon find yourself meeting challenges head on and thriving in our demanding engineering environment.

 

 

10 week Engineering Placement Programme

Our 10-week Summer Placement Programme gives students who do not have the option for a year in industry the chance to get some real, hands-on experience.

It will be a summer like no other. You will gain experience in a fast-moving manufacturing environment, putting your studies into practice and developing skills by working alongside our team of talented Engineers.

  • With up to 10 weeks’ working during our busiest time, you are guaranteed to be involved in some of our biggest and most exciting projects.

Finance Graduate Programme

At NMUK you will experience a level of involvement and responsibility that is rare to find in typical finance departments.

  • You will start by working several weeks in each of our departments, to gain a broad understanding of the business.
  • After this you will be given real responsibility, working with multi-million pound budgets and dealing with a range of tasks, including budget reviews, ledger supervision, forecasting, setting new budgets and making costings for new models.

You will need good communication skills, as you will be dealing with everyone up to senior management level. You will also need integrity, the creativity to question perceived systems and an eye for reducing costs without sacrificing quality.

Our Operations Management department is a complex, multi-dimensional function, requiring experts in:

With every car manufactured to order at NMUK, you will be part of a team who must ensure a seamless and cost-effective manufacturing operation that enables the delivery of some 500,000 cars a year.

Over the course of the programme you will gain hands-on experience in at least 2 of the 3 main department functions; scheduling, parts control and design change control. This could be in the main vehicle processes or supporting internal processes like aluminium casting.

You will also have the chance to be involved in major project studies as well as the restructuring of systems and processes to accommodate new model manufacturing.

Purchasing Graduate Programme

Quality Assurance Graduate Programme

Quality is the foundation for everything we do at NMUK. Every area of our business is shaped to achieve the highest standards of quality possible and our Quality Assurance department sets the standards to which the rest of us work.

You will play a key role in the whole production cycle, from suppliers and raw materials, to the finished vehicle and post-sales customer satisfaction. Your tasks as a Graduate QA Engineer will include; establishing benchmarks, devising systems and implementing test methods to ensure quality is built into every stage of the production cycle. You will also be responsible for teaching other employees how to recognise areas where quality could be improved.

You will use your technical/engineering ability and interpersonal skills to liaise with suppliers and departments across the business: and your aptitude for switching between explaining your requirements as customer to delivering solutions as a supplier will be utilised daily.

Quality Assurance Placement Programme

Your tasks as a Placement Student in QA will include; establishing benchmarks, devising systems and implementing test methods to ensure quality is built into every stage of the production cycle. You will also be responsible for teaching other employees how to recognise areas where quality could be improved.

Supply Chain Management & Logistics Graduate Programme

As a Supply Chain Management and Logistics Graduate, you will be working within our on-site Alliance Logistics Europe (ALE) team, which is comprised of the following key areas:

  • Inbound Part Logistics: working with logistics providers to design and engineer innovative and cost-effective global logistics routes
  • Warehousing & Regional Material Handling: managing inbound parts once they reach NMUK
  • Overseas Chief Project Logistics & Cost Reporting Group: managing new model projects and developmental cost reporting for the 3 European Nissan manufacturing countries
  • Outbound ALE Organisation: responsible for the delivery of vehicles from all production sources to final dealer locations across Europe and certain overseas markets.

ALE identifies, develops and executes highly-efficient logistics solutions, meeting the quality, cost and delivery needs of the key internal stakeholders and customers.  You will actively benchmark with internal and external organisations, including those outside of the automotive environment.

Alliance Logistics Europe (ALE) is responsible for managing the outbound and inbound supply chain of Nissan. The departments main objectives include quality management and the delivery of t he right cars, at the right place, in the right time.

During your time with us you will have responsibilities such as managing and improving our ALE processes, monitoring supply quality performance and supporting vehicle enhancement trials. To ensure Nissan continues to deliver innovation to its business and customers, you will actively benchmark with internal and external organisations, which will not only be limited to the automotive environment.
