Legal Advisor Job Description

 

We are looking to recruit a Legal Advisor into our Sunderland plant. This is fantastic opportunity for someone looking to work within an in-house function, with the ability to work autonomously and cover a broad subject matter.

This role will support the Legal Manager and the business on legal and regulatory issues relating to the manufacturing of Nissan’s products at local level as well as providing support on UK, European and global projects.

Outline and Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Legal Manager with ongoing work and responsibilities relating to the Sunderland Plant
  • To manage autonomously the provision of timely and high-quality legal advice across a wide range of subjects to the business
  • To work closely with other members of the legal team as well as stakeholders from business divisions such as Purchasing, Engineering, Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality Assurance, Customs, HR, IT/IS departments and senior management
  • To draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts relating to the Sunderland Plant, which may include:◦Grant offer letters and consortium agreements

◦Supply of goods and services agreements (supply of parts, goods, maintenance etc)

◦Logistics agreements

◦OEM agreements

◦Engineering and construction agreements (including standard form agreements)

◦Variation agreements, confidentiality agreements, side letters

◦Project agreements and related documentation (including on global and regional projects)

◦Outsourcing, IT/IS agreements

◦Data protection provisions

  • To work with internal and external specialist lawyers on specialist areas such as:◦Property matters

◦Intellectual Property matters

◦Energy/utilities related contracts and issues

◦Regulatory issues

◦Employment, Tax and Customs related issues

◦Corporate matters

 

  • To assist the Corporate Governance function with corporate matters
  • To cooperate within the broader legal team and provide local legal advice in regional projects
  • To work on developing new templates and procedures
  • To provide legal training to the organisation
  • To manage external legal advisors and control external spend
  • To assist with management of the legal budget
  • To provide legal support for ad hoc matters including third party claims and litigation
  • To support achievement of team objectives

 

  • Must be able to travel for business as required.

 

 

Experience and Qualifications Required:

 

  • Formal/Professional Education – A qualified solicitor/barrister in the UK with a minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience either private practice or in-house (at least some in-house experience is highly preferable)
  • Experience and qualities◦The ability to draft and negotiate a range of commercial contracts and the confidence to work autonomously are essential

  • IT Skills – Standard Microsoft office packages
  • Language skills welcome – fluency in English (written and spoken) essential

 

Minimum Education Required – 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree
