With thousands of roles across a multitude of departments and functions, Nissan UK is brimming with the opportunity to progress. Diversity is one of our workforce super powers and we thrive on helping employees to experience as much of Nissan as possible through learning and development opportunities. Career pathways are wide and varied, with cross-functionality, lateral and upwards progression and the support and learning tools you need to get there.
Jacqui has worked at Nissan for almost 20 years, working across various roles in HR. As someone who did not necessarily want to work for people, rather work with them, Jacqui has enjoyed focusing her talent with people on cross-functional projects and workstreams.
As well as international travel, she has been able to rotate and move laterally to learn about different areas of the business and develop new skills and knowledge – developing her career in a way that suits her goals and personality.
We create chances for employees to learn within both their daily work and by offering formal learning and training courses. All employees are encouraged to ask for additional training and learning and we will support wherever possible. We are committed to providing and inclusive and excellent service to all. Where necessary and appropriate we will endeavour to make reasonable adjustments to help employees access learning and development resources.
Our classroom training is all done by qualified trainers, covering areas such as:
These courses help instil behaviours and personal skills to help our employees thrive in their personal development. They include appraisal skills, presentation skills, line manager courses, resilience and wellbeing, communications courses, coaching and leadership courses, team building and grievance & discipline skills.
This training covers process models and ethoses that enable employees to add value to our production operations. Courses include Kaizen School, Try-Z (Trial Zero, an approach for introducing model changes to the production line), TQM (Total Quality Management) and Standard Ops training (Standard Operations Procedures are step-by-step instructions for completing a work task).
Primarily for our technical teams, such as Maintenance and Engineering, this training includes robot programming, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)/HMI (Human Machine Interface) programming, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
We also offer non-standard with external providers. If an employee has a certain need for training that can not be fulfilled on-site, then we will always consider and investigate alternative training for them.
With over 30,000 pieces of learning content there is a wealth of education available on our online learning platform, from book excerpts and podcasts, to knowledge article and videos, plus the opportunity to build a training profile and book training courses. Course availability is tailored to the functions and roles within the business, with some available from the very first day on the job.
Our PushFar mentoring app is available to all, and allows our employees to take charge of their mentoring and tap into mentors tailored to their particular goals and circumstances. People can choose to be a mentor, a mentee or both, create mentoring relationships with colleagues across the whole AMIEO region through their computer or our app.
At Nissan you can also be identified as having potential to take part in a range of nominated courses. You own your career path, and opportunities for development are always available to those who work hard and seek to progress.
Finally, on-the-job learning and the pursuit of improvement can be found everywhere at Nissan. From project work to simple, daily skills enhancement, our ethos of continuous improvement stretches to our employees, all supported by the experts, peers and colleagues they work with on a daily basis.
We have numerous learning facilities across our sites, including our dedicated Learning Hub at Nissan Sunderland and access to the on-site £3m SASMI (The Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing and Innovation) training centre.
We also have Basic Skills Areas and safety training dojos set up across our production plant zones, where employees can learn in real situations how to apply their new skills and knowledge.
