Our Manufacturing Staff are the people who build our most important asset – our world-leading vehicles. Life on the line is fast paced and challenging, with everyone performing a vital role in producing thousands of vehicles like the Qashqai, Juke and LEAF every single week. It’s not an environment for the faint of heart, but one where hard workers thrive, with plenty of progression opportunities for those who are hungry to succeed.
When Mark’s supervisors realised he had a highly specialist background working in foundries, they gave him the opportunity to make use of his skillset as a Key Operator on a new line in Castings. He used his knowledge and worked with his team to implement changes which made a real difference to the department. This led to him being invited to progress towards becoming a Team Leader at his very first appraisal. With hard work and dedication Mark knows there will be many more opportunities available to him at Nissan.
Trim & Chassis is where our vehicles come to life. Joining us as manufacturing staff here gives you the opportunity to develop skills in Lean Manufacturing techniques and Workshop Controls, as well as increasing your own personal dexterity while fitting key parts to the car. These skills go hand-in-hand with automation in the shop, which ultimately produces a finished car ready for the customer.
Powertrain is the manufacturing of front and rear axle/suspension parts from pressed child parts. The parts go through welding, painting and then finally bush pressing before shipment to vehicle assembly. Manufacturing staff working in this area need a number of manual skills that support the balance between automation and our highly-skilled team.
Press is a very diverse manufacturing shop, with processes ranging from dealing with raw material coming into the shop, to being cut and pressed into all body panels to supply the Body Shop. There’s also an injection moulding zone, a small painting function and battery assembly process that supplies directly to trim and chassis.
Castings at Nissan Sunderland is fundamentally a foundry. Using raw materials, sand and aluminium, we produce aluminium cylinder heads for Nissan and Renault. It’s a hot and highly pressurised environment where safety is key – but don’t worry, you’ll have all the support and training you need to succeed.
Paint Shop provides some key operations to the vehicle manufacturing process to complete the overall look of the vehicle body. Delivered by a mix of automation and our expert workforce, it’s an exciting place to be with a wide range of sections to try your hand at.
The pace is fast in this mainline shop, where our manufacturing staff teams receive pressed metal panels from press shop and build the vehicle body at pre-paint stage. You’ll need resilience and drive to succeed. But those who rise to the challenge will be met with opportunities and teamwork that are second to none.
