The NMUK Apprenticeship Schemes typically range from 2 years to 5 years. They include both on- and off-the-job training, combining theoretical and practical skills to prepare you for your role and future career with us.

Each scheme has its own entry criteria, aligned to the skills required for the challenges of that particular scheme.

All of our NMUK apprenticeship schemes offer full-time, paid employment, with some schemes also offering overtime and shift allowances. We believe in rewarding hard work and, depending on your performance, you could be awarded a salary increase after every 6-month appraisal.

You will be entitled to 26 days’ holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays.  A uniform is also provided as part of your employment set-up.

 

Maintenance Technician

This is a 5-year scheme that has been developed in conjunction with NAC and local colleges. It combines both practical and theoretical skills. You will gain valuable insight into all aspects of automotive and manufacturing maintenance and will also acquire the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of the team responsible for maintaining the production facilities here at NMUK.

Maintenance Technician (Die Maintenance)

To become a Maintenance Technician it is a 5-year scheme that has been developed in conjunction with NAC and Local College. It combines both practical and theoretical skills. You will gain a valuable insight into all aspects of automotive tooling manufacture, tool maintenance, machining and CADCAM.
You’ll also acquire the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of the team responsible for maintaining the production facilities and Automotive tooling here at NMUK.
In your first year of your Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship, you’ll complete off-the-job training at Local College. The remaining 4 years will be spent both on day release at College and full-time at our Sunderland plant.
You will have the opportunity to work with the most up-to-date manufacturing equipment and tooling in the industry.

Special Skills Manufacturing Staff

This 2-3 year Apprenticeship Scheme is delivered across a choice of 3 areas; Vehicle Repair, Panel Repair and Paint Spraying. Developed in conjunction with NAC and a local college, the scheme combines theoretical and practical skills and will give you valuable insight into all aspects of automotive manufacturing. Your time will be split between off-the-job training at a local college and on-the-job training at our Sunderland plant, where you’ll have the chance to work with the most up-to-date manufacturing equipment in the industry. Each scheme option provides thorough training for nationally-recognised qualifications.

Manufacturing Staff

To become a Apprentice Manufacturing Staff it is a 24-month apprenticeship scheme that provides thorough training for nationally-recognised qualifications. Developed in conjunction with NAC and a local college, it combines theoretical and practical skills and will give you a valuable insight into all aspects of automotive manufacturing. You’ll gain the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of a team working on the production line producing high quality vehicles. During your Manufacturing Staff Apprenticeship you will combine off-the-job training at a local college and on-the-job training in the plant, you’ll have the chance to work with the most up-to-date manufacturing equipment in the industry.

Administrative Assistant

This 2-year apprenticeship scheme provides thorough training for nationally-recognised qualifications. Developed in conjunction with NAC and a local college, it combines both theoretical and practical skills. You will gain valuable insight into aspects of administrative work in connection with automotive manufacturing, learning the skills and knowledge to work as a member of a team providing administrative support to departments such as Human Resources.

Quality Technical Support Staff

This is a 3-year scheme that has been developed in conjunction with NAC and local colleges. It combines both practical and theoretical skills. You will gain a valuable insight into all aspects of automotive and manufacturing quality. You’ll also acquire the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of the team responsible for assuring quality of the parts and facilities here at NMUK.

Kaizen Innovation

To become a Kaizen ‘Innovation’ Apprentice you will partake in a 3-year scheme that has been developed in conjunction with NAC and a Local College. It combines both practical and theoretical skills. You will gain a valuable insight into all aspects of automotive assembly process including design and manufacture of ‘Low Cost Automation’ as well as maintenance of facilities for either quality improvements or cost savings. You’ll also acquire the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of the team responsible for maintaining the facilities and automotive tooling here at NMUK.

Logistics

To become a Logistics Apprentice, you will partake in a 2½ year scheme based at either our Washington NDS Compound or Port of Tyne, the scheme will include training in a wide variety of roles related to operational, planning and administrative activities required to deliver vehicles to our customers. As part of the scheme you will attend day release at a local college where you will study for a qualification related to these disciplines to broaden the academic knowledge underpinning your day to day duties. Apprentices who show a high level of commitment and determination will have the opportunity to progress quickly in the department.

Engineering Degree

This apprenticeship combines both practical and theoretical skills gaining a valuable insight into all aspects of automotive and manufacturing maintenance and engineering. You will acquire the skills and knowledge to work as a member of the team responsible for Vehicle, Equipment and Manufacturing engineering within Nissan. In the first year of your Engineering Degree apprenticeship, you’ll complete off-the-job training at a local college and University; the next 2 years of the apprenticeship will be spent on day release at University and full-time at Nissan. You will have the opportunity to work with the most up-to-date engineering equipment in the industry.
